Promoting the Health of Belgian Forests: Bioenergy Europe Joins FEBHEL General Assembly

Last week Jérémie Geelen, Bioenergy Europe’s Market Intelligence Director, attended FEBHEL‘s annual General Assembly. FEBHEL, the Belgian Interprofessional Federation of Wood Energy, aims to safeguard and promote the entire wood energy sector in Belgium to ensure its development.

Bioenergy Europe presented its activities and its role in supporting FEBHEL’s initiatives at the European level. The discussion focused on the status of forests in Europe, with a special focus on Belgium. Attendees positively noted that over the last three decades, both European and Belgian forests have continuously grown in area and stock. 

The bioenergy sector is a crucial ally to the woodworking industry, providing a market for its substantial by-products. This relationship not only supports the woodworking industry economically but also advances the EU’s energy system towards decarbonization.
