Renewable heat in focus at IrBEA 2026
Renewable heat in focus at IrBEA 2026, as Bioenergy Europe joined the conference to discuss the evolving EU policy framework shaping the bioenergy sector and the future of clean heat in Europe.
During the event, Ileana Repaci, Policy Officer at Bioenergy Europe, presented the latest developments in EU energy and climate policy, highlighting renewable heat’s role in energy security, industrial competitiveness and decarbonisation.
Her presentation explored key EU files impacting the sector, including RED III implementation, the post-2030 renewable energy framework, the EU Bioeconomy Strategy, the upcoming Heating and Cooling Strategy, the Carbon Removal and Carbon Farming Certification Framework, and the Industrial Accelerator Act.
Bioenergy Europe’s Key Message on renewable heat
The central message was clear: heating and cooling remain among the most important sectors to defossilise. Sustainable bioenergy already plays a major role in renewable heat, offering a reliable and flexible solution that can support households, industries and local energy systems.
IrBEA’s 25th National Bioenergy Conference also highlighted Ireland’s renewable heating challenge, as the country will need one of the largest relative increases in renewable heating and cooling across the EU to meet its 2030 objectives.
For Bioenergy Europe, the conference was an important opportunity to exchange with national stakeholders and underline the need for pragmatic EU policies that recognise bioenergy’s contribution to renewable heat, energy resilience and Europe’s circular bioeconomy.
