Answer to the consultation on EED post-2030

The post-2030 energy efficiency framework should strengthen the role of renewable heat in supporting Europe’s decarbonisation goals and industrial competitiveness. Greater attention must be given to the heating sector, which remains heavily reliant on fossil fuels despite its significant potential for affordable emissions reductions. A whole-system approach is needed, combining supply- and demand-side measures, renewable heat, efficient district heating, cogeneration, and heat recovery. The framework should accelerate the replacement of outdated fossil-based heating systems with renewable solutions, including sustainable bioenergy, and support the gradual phase-out of fossil fuels.
