Meet Our Members: LDG Forest Group: Scaling Sustainable Bioenergy with Global Reach

In this edition of Meet Our Members, we speak with LDG Forest Group A/S, a long-established and globally active supplier of sustainable wood pellets. With over 40 years of experience in the bioenergy sector, LDG shares how their international footprint, commitment to sustainability, and active role in EU policy discussions position them at the forefront of the biomass industry.

1) Can you tell us a bit about LDG Forest Group and where you operate?

LDG Forest Group A/S has been part of the bioenergy world for over 40 years. We specialize in sustainable, high-quality wood pellets for both heating and industrial use. Our headquarters is in Denmark, but we’ve built a strong presence across Europe — in places like Scandinavia, the Baltics, Italy, France, and Poland — as well as in Brazil, Canada, and the U.S. That international reach helps us deliver consistently, efficiently, and reliably, no matter the market.

2) What makes your products stand out in a competitive field?

We’re all about quality and sustainability. Our wood pellets are certified under ENplus® A1, FSC, and SBP, which means they meet the highest standards for performance and traceability. Whether for homes or large-scale industrial clients, our customers can count on clean combustion, reliable supply, and a product that aligns with today’s environmental expectations.

3) How is your team organized to support such a global operation?

We’ve got a decentralized setup, which gives our local teams the flexibility to respond to market needs while staying aligned with our global strategy. Our experts in procurement, logistics, sustainability, and quality control all work together to make sure we deliver a consistent product and excellent service — wherever we are.

One of our most important branches is in Italy, which plays a key role in European distribution. The Italian operations are led by Alfredo Ciannavei (Country Manager) and Francesco Mengoni (Head of Sales), whose experience and leadership continue to strengthen our presence in Southern Europe.

We’re also proud to collaborate with Riccardo Pascolini, our Consultant, whose insight and network help drive strategic growth across global markets.

4) What kind of value do you offer your customers?

We provide more than just fuel — we offer stability and peace of mind. Our supply chain is built for reliability, our pellets are top-tier, and our logistics are streamlined to reduce delays and costs. It’s about helping customers meet their energy needs while staying ahead on sustainability and regulation.

5) What role do sustainability and innovation play in your approach?

They’re at the core of everything we do. Our pellets come from responsibly sourced materials, helping to reduce carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. We’re also big believers in innovation — whether that’s low-emission production, optimizing logistics, or investing in AI to make our supply chain smarter and more responsive.

6) How do EU policies impact your work?

EU policy is a major driver in how we operate and evolve. Directives like RED II and RED III, the LULUCF regulation, and the EU sustainability criteria for biomass shape how we source, produce, and certify our products. Compliance with frameworks like ENplus®, SBP, and FSC isn’t just about market access — it’s about trust and accountability. We also keep a close eye on carbon pricing, energy taxation, and the Fit for 55 package, which are reshaping competitiveness and investment strategies across the sector.

7) What inspired you to join Bioenergy Europe? How does it help your mission?

We joined because we believe in working together to move the industry forward. Bioenergy Europe gives us a seat at the table when it comes to policy, and it connects us with producers, traders, equipment manufacturers — really the whole value chain. It’s an essential platform for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and making sure the voice of biomass is heard at the EU level.

8) What’s next for LDG Forest Group?

We’re continuing to grow — expanding our production capacity, enhancing digital integration, and applying AI to improve logistics and forecasting. We’re also developing next-generation pellet products and exploring new markets to meet the increasing demand for sustainable energy solutions. The focus is always on staying ahead, staying responsible, and staying connected.
