Olive Cake
Olive cake is a by-product of olive oil production, consisting of the solid residue left after the extraction of olive oil from olives. Olive cake is produced in secondary extraction plants that handle the olive pomace generated from smaller olive mills in order to extract some residual oil that it contains.
It contains olive pits, skins, pulp, and a very small amount of residual oil. Olive cake is a valuable biomass resource due to its relatively high calorific value. It can be used as a renewable fuel for heat and power generation, either in its raw form or after being processed into pellets or briquettes. Olive cake usually has somewhat high ash content (higher than olive stones) and is most typically used in larger-sized applications.
