Europe’s Biomass Supply to 2050: From Sustainable Potential to Mobilisation

The aim of the session is to move the question of biomass supply and mobilisation beyond a debate focused only on headline potential figures and towards a better understanding of the transition from physical resource to mobilizable supply and actual use. The session will focus on two complementary questions:

1.How much sustainable biomass do we have?

What does the available evidence from scientific studies tell us about Europe’s sustainable biomass resource towards 2050, and what explains the differences between estimates?

2.How much of this potential can Europe actually unlock?

Which economic, technical, policy and management conditions determine whether a sustainable biomass resource can actually be mobilised and reach the market?
