Bioenergy Europe fully supports the EU Parliament’s ENVI Committee resolution for COP29, which calls for a bold post-2025 climate finance goal, a global phase-out of fossil fuels, and stronger carbon pricing mechanisms. The resolution underscores the importance of reallocating fossil fuel subsidies towards climate action—something Bioenergy Europe strongly advocates for as part of the necessary shift to renewables.
The call to expand carbon pricing worldwide is particularly crucial. As only 24% of global emissions are currently covered by carbon pricing mechanisms, Bioenergy Europe stands with Members of the European Parliament in urging other countries to follow the EU’s lead, using tools like the emissions trading system (ETS) and the carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) to push decarbonization forward.
Bioenergy Europe remains committed to supporting policies that accelerate the move away from fossil fuels and toward a renewable energy future in line with global climate goals. The whole bioenergy industry is ready to take an active role to transition away from fossil fuels.
