Bioenergy Europe’s reaction to the outcome of the RED trilogues

Bioenergy Europe welcomes the outcome of the RED trilogues and the recognition of biomass as 100% renewable. However, we regret the overcomplication of certain provisions which will hinder the deployment of renewables instead of promoting them.

“We expressly welcome the higher 45% RES target and the full recognition of the expansion of bioenergy to achieve it. It is important that the now strengthened sustainability criteria are implemented in an unbureaucratic and practical way!” Says Bioenergy Europe’s President Christoph Pfemeter.

With this milestone reached, it is now the task of the legislators to ensure that the recognition of bioenergy is also reflected in other key files like the Net Zero Industry Act and the Carbon Removal Certification Framework.
