Meet Pinja: Supporting Europe’s renewable energy transition with deep industry expertise & digital solutions
In the latest edition of our Meet Our Members campaign, we introduce Pinja, a Finnish company helping energy businesses improve efficiency, manage fuel supply chains and navigate sustainability reporting through practical digital solutions.
We spoke with Marko Kiippa, Business Unit Director at Pinja, to learn more about the company’s role in the energy sector, how digitalisation is changing operations, and how Pinja helps customers respond to evolving sustainability and regulatory requirements across Europe.
Where are you based?
Pinja is a Finnish company with offices across the country and customers throughout Europe and beyond. Together with our network of partners across Europe, we help companies improve their operations, accelerate digitalization, and achieve their sustainability goals through practical digital solutions, AI and deep industry expertise.
What role does your company play in the energy sector?
Since the 1990s, we have been helping companies in the energy sector to improve the way they operate with digital solutions and services.
Our SaaS software supports fuel supply chain management, plant operations, and business reporting, including sustainability reporting.
We help our customers adapt to changing business needs and regulatory requirements while improving efficiency and reducing costs through practical digital solutions. Today, we work with organizations across Europe in energy and heat production, pellet manufacturing, waste-to-energy, and biogas.
How is your team structured?
Our team brings together experts in software development, energy consulting, project delivery, and customer support. By combining technical expertise with in-depth industry knowledge, we develop solutions that help our customers succeed.
We work closely across different areas of expertise, including fuel supply chains, plant operations, and regulatory requirements to deliver practical solutions that create real value for our customers.
What value do your products and/or services bring to your customers?
Our products and services help companies operate more efficiently, sustainably, and profitably. By connecting data, automating routine tasks, and supporting informed decision-making, we help customers optimize supply chains and operations, reduce costs, and adapt to changing market conditions and regulations.
We build long-term partnerships with our customers, continuously developing our solutions to meet their evolving business needs in an ever-changing regulatory environment.
Do they contribute to sustainability, efficiency, or innovation?
Our solutions provide accurate, real-time data that helps customers make better use of resources, improve operational efficiency, and meet sustainability reporting requirements, including RED III and EUDR compliance.
By digitalizing key business processes, we reduce manual work, improve transparency, and help customers to make faster, better-informed decisions.
How does EU policy impact your business?
EU regulations drive the development of our solutions by creating a growing need for transparent data management, sustainability verification, and compliance with certification requirements.
We help customers collect, manage, and report operational data needed for frameworks such as RED III and related certification processes. By combining energy domain expertise with digital tools, we help customers stay prepared for evolving regulatory expectations.
What key regulations influence your operations or growth?
RED III and the ongoing development of EU renewable energy legislation are among the key drivers of our business and future growth.
As requirements for sustainability verification, traceability, and certification of renewable fuels, including renewable hydrogen and renewable methane continue to grow, so does the need for reliable digital tools that support compliance and efficient data management.
What motivated you to join Bioenergy Europe?
Joining Bioenergy Europe was a natural step for Pinja to deepen our collaboration with industry partners, exchange knowledge, and join the conversation on the future of energy. Through this cooperation, we aim to contribute to the development of a sustainable bioenergy sector.
How does membership support your goals and industry engagement?
Bioenergy Europe membership provides opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and dialogue with key stakeholders while helping us stay connected with the latest developments in the European bioenergy sector.
What’s next for your company?
As the European energy sector continues to evolve, Pinja aims to expand into new European markets and strengthen its role as a trusted digitalisation partner. We will continue developing solutions that help customers optimise operations, comply with regulations, and build a strong foundation for sustainable future growth.
Any upcoming projects, innovations, or growth plans?
As part of our growth strategy, we are expanding our software portfolio to support the certification and sustainability verification of renewable fuels, including RFNBO hydrogen and renewable methane.
At the same time, we continue to develop digital logistics solutions for renewable fuel production plants, helping customers optimize material flows, improve operational efficiency, and increase profitability.
