The ORC system supplied by Turboden wil be part of an innovative process that generates electricity from chicken manure.
Turboden, a group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), leader in Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) turbogenerators for distributed power generation from renewable sources and waste heat, signed an order with Güres for a new ORC unit to be installed at the company’s main production site in Manisa, Turkey.
Güres is the largest integrated egg producer in the Republic of Turkey with an annual production of about 800 Million eggs.
The Turboden 2.3 MWe ORC converts the heat from the combustion of chicken litter into electric power and hot water. While the electricity will be sold to the grid at a feed-in tariff specific for bioenergy, the hot water will be employed in tailor-made dryers specifically designed by Güres to dry up the chicken litter (before its combustion).
The feedstock – about 300 ton/day – will be entirely sourced from Güres’ egg production process.
The start-up of the plant is scheduled for the third quarter of 2018.
The project is the result of several years of R&D activities undertaken by Güres, whose ambitious project could turn a major environmental issue into clean energy.
The main components of the ORC unit will be produced locally by Turboden’s Turkish subsidiary Turboden Turkey A.Ş. and thanks to the local made content, Güres will enjoy a higher feed-in tariff for electricity sales, which will increase from 133 USD/MWh to 153 USD/MWh.
Turboden has 10 plants in Turkey, of which 6 already in operation, with an overall power capacity of 35.7 MWe.
