Fuel your festive screen time with Bioenergy Europe’s Christmas movie picks
Welcome to Bioenergy Europe’s Christmas movie picks. At Bioenergy Europe, we know the joy of switching off for a few days and settling in somewhere warm (ideally near a good source of heat). Christmas break is the perfect moment to watch something familiar, discover a new favourite, or revisit a story that still hits the same way years later.
From classic comfort watches to fantasy marathons and one entry that is very much not family-friendly, here’s what the Bioenergy Europe team is putting on during the holidays.
"How the Grinch Stole Christmas"
I’ve always loved watching this movie because it’s a good reminder that Christmas isn’t about material things, but about love, appreciating being close to the ones we care for, and cherishing those moments. It also shows us that we should have more empathy toward others.
Leonor Silva, Office and HR Assistant
I’m not that big on Christmas movies but I have watched one that really stuck with me. It is my favourite because of the completely unexpected ending and a bit of a different storyline than usual. I also really like the fact that it is literally a line from a song, taken literally, and put into a movie.
Agnieszka Jankowska, Senior Certification & Fraud Officer
I’ve always adored princess movies, so Shrek 2 became an instant favourite because the fairytale references are everywhere, and the jokes in the Latin American Spanish dub still feel unmatched. When I watch it, it pulls me right back into that cozy childhood bubble of simple times and laughter, and I love how it makes fun of the whole “perfect princess” idea I grew up with.
Isis Taipe Maldonado, Junior Certification & Fraud Officer
As a child, the movie that captivated me the most was The Golden Compass. Young Lyra, the heroine, is curious, hopeful, a quick thinker. I was fascinated by her friendship with the polar bear (the one who agreed to carry Lyra across the snows) and how brave she was to adventure together into a mystical world. This is the only film I’m mentioning because I feel that there is no such movie being released nowadays with magic adventure and a bit of nostalgia.
Diandra Velica, Marketing Assistant at ENplus®
I love to watch Home Alone because of the cozy Christmas decoration, the strong family theme and the kid’s sense of imagination and adventure that made me dream when I was a child. Watching it brings back the nostalgia of my childhood and now that I have children of my own, watching it with them adds an even more special dimension. It is for me an iconic film to watch during Christmas period.
Laure Pasquier, Office and HR Director
I like these movie series, especially the third one, because it reminds me of childhood. This used to always be a marathon of Shrek on national TV during the holiday period back when I was little. And I can also mention: “Nobody expects Shrek!” – Al Pacino
Andrei-Nicon Andone, Junior CRM Administrator
"Harry Potter and the Philisopher’s Stone"
I really like watching Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone during the Christmas holidays. It was the first fantasy saga I saw on the big screen and always makes me happy and hopeful. Harry is a character that overcomes great hardship without growing resentful and angry and I think it is a beautiful message to pass during the holidays.
Clara Puig, Communications Officer
"The Lord of the Rings trilogy"
My favourite Christmas movie would be The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I love putting on a series or saga that can be enjoyed throughout the holidays, and this is the ultimate fantasy adventure that adds to the magic of Christmas.
Gaia Weber, Graphic Designer
My pick is Terrifier 3. By placing one of the most iconic villains of recent years in a Christmas setting and mixing gore with generous doses of black humour, Director Damien Leone has delivered a movie that can already be considered a cult season classic. Definitely not family friendly, but how many other movies in this list come with their own Christmas carol? “You hear footsteps that’s not Santa, it’s a jolly clown named Art!”
Manolis Karampinis, Business Development & Membership Director
"Regalo di Natale" (Pupi Avati)
I choose Regalo di Natale by Pupi Avati, because it is about friendship, deception, and disillusion. Poker becomes a metaphor for life, where all seems to be ruled by chance, yet in some way everything is already set.
Luca Oggianu, Communications Director
The Holiday is fun and light, a classic for the winter holidays. The plot hides no surprises, but it is a sweet and comforting romantic comedy with some great characters. Iris (Kate Winslet) and Miles (Jack Black) have the cutest chemistry.
Martina Marignani, Communications Officer
