Bioenergy Europe Welcomes Extension of EU Anti-Deforestation Regulation Timeline

On 2 October 2024, the European Commission proposed a one-year extension for the EU’s anti-deforestation regulation (EUDR), delaying the compliance deadlines to December 2025 for large companies and June 2026 for smaller businesses. Bioenergy Europe welcomes this extension, providing time for effective implementation.

The European Commission has proposed a one-year extension for implementing the EU’s anti-deforestation regulation (EUDR), responding to feedback from member states, trade partners, and industry stakeholders. The new proposal would delay the compliance deadline to 30 December 2025 for large companies and 30 June 2026 for smaller enterprises.

The delay is not effective yet. For the Commission proposal for a delay to work, The European Parliament and Council also have to agree to it, and to conclude inter-institutional negotiations in less than three months.

Bioenergy Europe welcomes this extension, which provides time for effective implementation. The additional months allow businesses to align with the new standards without unnecessary disruption, especially in the case of small-scale businesses. Bioenergy Europe continues to support the EUDR’s goals, offering constructive contributions for a successful implementation.
