Will the carbon tax be the tool to achieve 100 % renewable Heating & Cooling for Czechia?

The National Round Tables are part of the European Technology and Innovation Platform on Renewable Heating & Cooling (RHC-ETIP) and represent a series of panel discussions involving policymakers and relevant stakeholders.

Following similar National Round Tables in Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, The Netherlands and Ireland, this National Round Table will focus on the challenges and opportunities in Czechia.

The carbon tax is a simple and effective tool for decarbonisation. Higher share of renewables often goes hand in hand with carbon taxation. Such is the case in Nordic countries for more than a couple of decades. Germany looks towards newly introduced carbon tax to fix the lower share of renewables in the heating and transport sectors. This webinar, organised by the Czech Biomass Association in cooperation with Bioenergy Europe, is focused on carbon tax as a tool to decarbonize the heating sector in Czechia.

MEP Luděk Niedermayer will give us a presentation summarizing current discussion on carbon pricing in the European Parliament and what we can expect in the near future. You will hear from Svebio’s Gustav Melin who will share Swedish success story in reaching almost 80% renewables in the heating and cooling sector and what benefits it gives to society. What are the barriers and challenges setting the right price of carbon in the Czech republic? Would carbon tax be the tool to decarbonize the heating and cooling sector? Magdalena Davis will open a debate on this topic in the Czech context and later will be joined in a roundtable discussion by other experts.
