Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS): Balancing Land Use and CDR Potential

Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS): Balancing Land Use and CDR Potential

Bioenergy Europe Joins Roundtable on BECCS and Its Role in Climate Neutrality

On February 13th, Bioenergy Europe’s Senior Policy Officer, Ennio Prizzi, participated in the roundtable organised by ERCST – European Roundtable on Climate Change and Energy Transition "Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS): Balancing Land Use and CDR Potential", alongside key stakeholders in the sector.

Reaching negative emissions is essential for the EU to meet its climate neutrality targets by 2050, and BECCS will play a major role in this effort. The discussion focused on sustainable biomass sourcing, including the need for certification schemes to guarantee responsible use of resources.

Speakers also looked at recent EU policy developments supporting sustainable biomass supply chains. Understanding the regulatory framework and potential incentives is key to making BECCS a reality. Additionally, the event explored challenges related to integrating BECCS into the energy grid and possible solutions to ensure it can be smoothly incorporated into existing infrastructure.
