Bioenergy Europe’s Domestic Heating Working Group Gathers to Address Ecodesign Challenges

Bioenergy Europe’s Domestic Heating Working Group Gathers to Address Ecodesign Challenges

On 18 March, Bioenergy Europe’s Domestic Heating Working Group convened to assess the latest developments on Ecodesign and Energy Labelling requirements for solid fuel boilers and local space heaters.

With the European Commission’s draft proposals raising critical challenges for the sector, the meeting served as a key moment to align advocacy strategies and evaluate the potential impacts on manufacturers, consumers, and the EU’s energy transition.

Discussions highlighted major concerns, including the impracticality of the proposed emission limits, overlapping regulations, and the risk of marginalising biomass heating solutions from the market. Members also exchanged views on the future implementation of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).

Bioenergy Europe and its members reaffirm their readiness to engage constructively with the European Commission to ensure the final regulatory framework is both realistic and supportive of the EU’s decarbonisation goals.

As the sector faces growing regulatory pressure, Bioenergy Europe remains fully committed to promoting sustainable biomass heating and safeguarding its vital role in Europe’s clean energy future. For more information about membership and working groups, please contact us
