How can we limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius?
To reach climate neutrality by 2050, we have to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in line with the 2015 Paris Agreement’s carbon budget. Fortunately, we can limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by removing old carbon dioxide emissions from the atmosphere through technologies such as Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS). BECCS is part of a collection of carbon removal technologies – which involve capturing carbon dioxide and then storing it temporarily or permanently.

Bioenergy is an integral part of a sustainable future because:
- it provides energy security
- it fosters rural development
- it contributes to greenhouse gas emissions reductions
- it increases forest resilience
