Bioenergy’s Role in EU Decarbonization: Insights from Biomass PowerON

Bioenergy Europe joined the 6th European Biomass PowerON Conference in Copenhagen on October 9-10, 2024. The event focused on bioenergy’s role in decarbonization, with Bioenergy Europe discussing EU regulations on carbon removals and their impact on the biomass sector.

This week, Bioenergy Europe joined the 6th European Biomass PowerON, taking place on 9-10 October in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Conference focused on the utilization of biomass and pellets for generating heat and power, the pivotal role of bioenergy in decarbonization efforts, and the forest industry’s outlook regarding the escalating demand for wood biomass and pellets.

As ongoing discussions within the EU address policies and regulations related to green solutions and the role of biomass, Bioenergy Europe contributed to the program with a presentation from Ileana Repaci, from the Bioenergy Europe’s policy team. Ileana  provided an in dept overview of the EU regulatory framework on bio-based carbon removals, analysing the possible impacts of the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF) Regulation on the biomass sector and engaged in discussions with the public about future evolution of carbon removal technologies in the European policy landscape.
